Mollie Huston Lee was the first African America librarian in Wake County, North Carolina. Mrs. Lee founded Raleigh's Richard B. Harrison Library. Mrs. Lee started and maintained a collection chronicling the African American experience both locally and nationally. The collection has grown to over 5,000 volumes, composed of both adult and juvenile fiction and nonfiction, serials, pamphlets, and vertical file materials. The vertical file collection has a special focus on documenting the lives of African Americans in Raleigh communities.
