Wake Country Register of Deeds
Services:
Certified
copies of birth and death records
filed in Wake County
can be obtained
from the Wake County Register of Deeds between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Copies are issued from
the third floor of One Bank of America Plaza, 421 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh,
N.C. Birth certificates are also
issued at Wake County
Northern Regional Center,
Southern Regional
Center
and
Eastern Regional Center.
Note - the regional centers
do not issue death certificates. For more information, please
read all of the requirements below or call 919-856-5218.
NOTE: We issue birth
certificates for individuals who were born in Wake County. We issue death
certificates that were filed in Wake County.

North Carolina counties, contact
North Carolina Department of Health and Human
Services Vital Records (N.C. Vital
Records).

Requirements for Obtaining a Certified Birth or Death Certificate
filed in Wake County:
In order to obtain a
certified birth or death certificate,
one of the following (A, B, or C) must apply:

Applicant is related to individual
on the birth/death certificate |

Birth only - Applicant can be self |
|
|
For birth and death - Applicant can be spouse, sister,
brother, child, parent/stepparent, grandparent, grandchild |
|
B. |
Applicant is
seeking information for legal determination of personal or
property rights |
|
C. |
Applicant is
authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of a person
listed in A or B above |
|

To Obtain a copy of
a birth or death certificate
in person: |

1. |
Make sure the above requirements are met for a certified copy of a birth or death
certificate. |

2. |
Complete the
online
English Application or
Spanish Application
for a Wake County Birth and/or Death Certificate. |
|
3. |
Bring the application, proper photo
identification and $10.00 cash, check or money order for each requested certified copy
needed. NOTE - Our office does not
accept credit cards.
You can also complete the
application in our office.

4. |
Pick up certified copies from the
Register of Deeds office at One Bank of America Plaza, 421
Fayetteville Street, Suite 300, Raleigh, N.C. You can also
get a birth certificate at Wake County
Regional Centers. Note - the regional centers
do not issue death certificates. |

To Obtain a copy of
a birth or death certificate
by mail: |

Make sure the above requirements
are met for a certified copy of a birth or death
certificate. |

Complete the

English Application
or
Spanish Application for
a Wake County Birth and/or Death Certificate. |

3. |
Sign the application, enclose a
copy of a proper photo identification and a check or money order
for the total number of certificates ordered. Do not send
cash in the mail.
NOTE - Our office does not accept

Make your check or money order payable to
'Wake County Register of Deeds." |

5. |
Send signed application, check or
money order and photo identification to Wake County Register of
Deeds, Attention: Vital Records, P.O. Box 1897, Raleigh, N.C.
27602-1897. Your request will be processed within one
business day of receipt (please allow additional mailing time). |

RECORDS FILED IN OTHER NORTH
CAROLINA COUNTIES
We are often asked by our
customers to record and/or certify copies of birth and death
records from other counties, states, or countries.
North Carolina law does not allow us to do this. You must obtain copies of
birth and death records from the county where they occurred.
If you do not know the North Carolina
county where the birth or
death record was filed, visit the

ADOPTION RECORDS
Adoption
records are not available at the
Wake County Register of Deeds.

Please note that a death registration should
be filed at Wake County Human Services. Call (919) 856-5218 for more
information related to a death registration.
